Style Favorites: Maternity Edition

I'm currently 7 weeks postpartum and cleared to start getting back to "normal" activity. It seems like enough time to have had a look at what I wore during my pregnancy and to know what I really liked and what didn't work for me.  I showed really late, I was probably around 25-26 weeks before I had a bump that took me out of my normal clothes and even then I was still fairly small. Because of that I didn't really invest in maternity clothing. By the time I got to the point where things didn't fit or I didn't like how they fit I was less than 10 weeks from my due date. That said, we had 3 weddings to attend this year and my baby shower. I also worked until I went into labor, which was luckily a Sunday, so I did have to dress myself until the end. Another disclaimer, I was able to have a relaxed wardrobe for work which also kept me from buying more maternity wear and using what I had in my closet. My first favorite: Black Blanqi Maternity Leggings . I was re

We're Moving!!

Hey! Hi! Hello!

Over the past few months there hasn't been a ton of good news coming in. Just before Lockdown started for my area I found out I had gotten into grad school.

Woohoo!

Which was quickly overshadowed by months of on going uncertainty, some anxiety, and the effort to keep myself and my family safe and healthy.

Whew!

In the last few weeks my boyfriend and I started looking for places to move in together and we are officially moving at the start of August! I'm SO excited! Primarily to decorate the place.
I have been making a conscious effort of thoughtfully shopping and searching for black owned companies to support first.

As much as possible I'm trying to be thoughtful with where we get things for our new house. Most of the furniture we're getting so far we've found through craigslist, facebook marketplace, and family. Awesome. I feel good about being able to keep that bit a little more sustainable.

I have a few black owned companies that I am anxiously awaiting restocks from: Yowie, Utility Objects, La Casa De Pinos, Grey Remedy, Naked Clay, and Estelle Colored Glass. When I say I am thoroughly excited about those colored wine glasses it's an understatement. I have primarily been looking into ceramics for accenting our space but I don't plan to stop there.

I'm also trying to support small boutique businesses as well and found Coming Soon. Everything they stock is super cool. It's vintage, it's artisan, it's awesome. There are some really cool candles by Lex Pott that I have my eye on and I'm patiently waiting until we're in the house to purchase.

I am buying some basic things from Amazon and Ikea, ie. door mats, starter plates and silverware, that we'll need close to when we move in and can't wait for restocks on. The hope is to have a shoe free house thus the need for the door mats.

I'm SO excited and I can't wait to share more of what we're doing and how things are shaping up! If you have any suggestions for black owned decor companies or small businesses in general I'd love to hear your suggestions!

So much is still uncertain so I'm grateful to have something to look forward to. Hope you're staying well!
