Style Favorites: Maternity Edition

I'm currently 7 weeks postpartum and cleared to start getting back to "normal" activity. It seems like enough time to have had a look at what I wore during my pregnancy and to know what I really liked and what didn't work for me.  I showed really late, I was probably around 25-26 weeks before I had a bump that took me out of my normal clothes and even then I was still fairly small. Because of that I didn't really invest in maternity clothing. By the time I got to the point where things didn't fit or I didn't like how they fit I was less than 10 weeks from my due date. That said, we had 3 weddings to attend this year and my baby shower. I also worked until I went into labor, which was luckily a Sunday, so I did have to dress myself until the end. Another disclaimer, I was able to have a relaxed wardrobe for work which also kept me from buying more maternity wear and using what I had in my closet. My first favorite: Black Blanqi Maternity Leggings . I was re

My 2018 in Books

The good, the bad, the unfinished. One thing I am truly glad I did in 2018 was read. And I really read. All kinds of books. Reading is one of my favorite past times. It always has been and up until the last year or two, I had forgotten that. One thing I'm really thankful I got from 2018 was remembering my love of reading. It probably sounds a little lame to say that but you're also here doing some reading so maybe not.
Up until recently, reading had taken a major sideline to my daily life. My job currently allows me some free time during the day that I primarily fill with reading. Quiet, seemingly academic, good example, its a great past time for free time at work that looks way better than aimlessly scrolling through my Instagram feed.
I actually limit my reading mostly to at work but also means I'm not getting through books as quickly, books aren't cheap I try to save them. In spite of my going through them rather slowly there are still a good number of books on my list and I wanted to share the books I read throughout the year. I couldn't decide the best way to share this post so I thought I'd share a list and make note of some of my favorites and include the ones I started and haven't finished yet. So without further ado, my literary year!

Ender in Exile by Orson Scott Card
A Song of Fire and Ice: A Game of Thrones, A Clash of Kings, A Storm of Swords, A Feast of Crows, A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin
Ready Player One and Armada by Ernest Cline
Bone Gap by Laura Ruby
The Lost Sisterhood by Anne Fortier
The Beautiful and the Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald
The Divine Comedy by Dante (unfinished)
The Mediator: Proposal and Remembrance by Meg Cabot
Crazy Rich Asians, China Rich Girlfriend, and Rich People Problems by Kevin Kwan
The Handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood
Outlander and Dragonfly in Amber (currently reading) by Diana Galbadon
Show Your Work by Austin Kleon (currently reading)

So that comes to about 20 books two I am currently reading Show Your Work is pretty short but I wanted to share it in case I'm inspired by it in the near future. The Divine Comedy is much slower moving than I thought and something I think I'll try to finish in the coming months. I would definitely say I'm reading it to say I've read it though.
For highlights of the year, I would say Ready Player One, The Lost Sisterhood, and the Crazy Rich Asians trilogy were really up there for me. That said I liked every book I finished. Ready Player One was not a complex heavy read, I read it right after I finished the A Dance with Dragons so if you've read that I bet you understand why I needed that, however, the references and the action kept it exciting and nostalgic even though the references were all to things from before my birth.
The Lost Sisterhood was exciting, historical, and a bit of romance. It was suggested to me and I'm so glad it was, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think when you go into something without a ton of expectations it makes it more enjoyable and that is what happened for me with this book.
The Crazy Rich Asians trilogy was so much more fun than I anticipated. I really think I read so many books because I mixed up serious and fun. These are pure fun. But with a ton of family drama and cross-cultural confusion. I love that these books are about "crazy rich" people but in the end, it's really about people never being what you think. A great reminder always also feels kind of like getting all the good family dirt so if you're into that READ THEM. The book was honestly more fun than the movie, I got a coworker hooked on them too, she agreed.

I'm sorry this is long but I have been DYING to share this list out, especially because all of this reading made me want to write again. If you have any questions on any of the other books on this list or have any recommendations for other books to read (I have read all of Gillian Flynn's books I'm waiting for more anxiously) PLEASE SEND THEM MY WAY. However, I did just start the Outlander series so I anticipate being busy for a while.
