Style Favorites: Maternity Edition

I'm currently 7 weeks postpartum and cleared to start getting back to "normal" activity. It seems like enough time to have had a look at what I wore during my pregnancy and to know what I really liked and what didn't work for me.  I showed really late, I was probably around 25-26 weeks before I had a bump that took me out of my normal clothes and even then I was still fairly small. Because of that I didn't really invest in maternity clothing. By the time I got to the point where things didn't fit or I didn't like how they fit I was less than 10 weeks from my due date. That said, we had 3 weddings to attend this year and my baby shower. I also worked until I went into labor, which was luckily a Sunday, so I did have to dress myself until the end. Another disclaimer, I was able to have a relaxed wardrobe for work which also kept me from buying more maternity wear and using what I had in my closet. My first favorite: Black Blanqi Maternity Leggings . I was re

The Desk Build

 Hii!!

Last you heard I was moving/ had just moved! Now months in our living room, dining room and kitchen have received the most love and honestly remained largely the same as when we first moved. Since they were spaces we used all the time we invested in them right off the bat!

Now that we've been in the space for a bit I've gotten around to working on my desk! My desk has been a bit of an endeavor for me. I had a hard time deciding if building a desk was really what I wanted to do. I've been enamored with Ikon Kobenhaven's tiled tables after seeing them on Pinterest, as you do when you're planning literally anything. So after looking and looking and accepting that a $1,000+ desk was not an option for me I set about trying to figure out how I could get a similar look on my own.

I want to say, this desk build wasn't actually cheaper than getting a more simple desk through another avenue. It was cheaper than buying an Ikon table but I still spent over $100 on all of the materials and tools. If you're just looking for a desk that works for now I wouldn't really suggest this.

Now! The desk! I started by buying the materials for the supports, 6'x1"x2"pieces and 4'x2'x1/4" plywood. I had them cut to 3' pieces but later cut them down to 30". We used the plywood as facing pieces and the other pieces as supports and did a similar method for the tabletop. There was a gap that I didn't think of when we attached the top to the supports which did take a little finagling to work around.

The tiles were the biggest struggle of the whole process for me. Tiles are expensive! I suspect this is probably were some of the cost of the Ikon tables come from, not to mention the construction time. I went back and forth on using colored tiles, or grout and trying to find good deals. Ultimately I landed on 2x2 white Daltile tiles and 3/8in and 1mm tiles from the Etsy stores Funky Dreams Mosaics and Beachcrafters. The front tiles are basically a mosaic that I applied as INDIVIDUAL tiles. Yes. It took forever. It looks cute. Cannot say I'd 100% recommend but it's what I did!

And here she is! In all her glory waiting patiently to be worked on ASAP! I hope you like it, although it's taken forever it's honestly been rewarding to build something and get exactly what I want with minimal compromises. PLEASE let me know if you've tiled a table, are going to tile a table, have built a table/desk or have an Ikon table because I'm sure they're FAB!
