29
In January 2021 I made a very rough 5 year plan. I am not a 5 year plan kind of person. I've never made one before and I had the distinct feeling of not knowing what I was doing. But I jotted down a little list of things I hoped to have accomplished by the time I get to 33 (shock horror).
Some of my list is underway like graduating from graduate school which should happen in about 2 years from now if all goes to plan. Others like buying a house, are still a bit of a pipe dream and to some degree resting on other financial goals.
That said, 28 was a year of incredible growth for me. About a year and a half (It might have been less?) of therapy later I was tackling challenges to my self esteem that had held me back for years. Late last fall I was diagnosed with adult ADHD which has been a strange mental adjustment (it feels like an excuse but it's also SO helpful) but has quite honestly CHANGED the game for me. Couldn't get laundry and homework done or even started before noon on a Saturday when I woke up at 7:30, now I can and the day seems so much longer and more manageable! Realizing that I have spent 15 years (I am one of those who made it to about high school before I started to struggle) trying really hard and just not getting there and that could all change is exciting and heart breaking.
28 was a lot pandemic included. 29 is looking very bright. I'm sad to be so close to seeing my 20s off but I'm also accomplishing a lot of what I'd hoped to in these last few years. It took a lot of life changes but I've made the most of the last 2 years and I'm feeling super optimistic about 29. Your 20s might fly but they're also long. Go your own speed and trust yourself and your journey. If it's important to you you'll get there, even if it looks different than you thought it would.
xx
