Style Favorites: Maternity Edition

I'm currently 7 weeks postpartum and cleared to start getting back to "normal" activity. It seems like enough time to have had a look at what I wore during my pregnancy and to know what I really liked and what didn't work for me.  I showed really late, I was probably around 25-26 weeks before I had a bump that took me out of my normal clothes and even then I was still fairly small. Because of that I didn't really invest in maternity clothing. By the time I got to the point where things didn't fit or I didn't like how they fit I was less than 10 weeks from my due date. That said, we had 3 weddings to attend this year and my baby shower. I also worked until I went into labor, which was luckily a Sunday, so I did have to dress myself until the end. Another disclaimer, I was able to have a relaxed wardrobe for work which also kept me from buying more maternity wear and using what I had in my closet. My first favorite: Black Blanqi Maternity Leggings . I was re...

Brrr Baby Brrr

This week at my school is going to be a cold one. It's been snowing off and on since Saturday and the temperature will be dropping into single digits and negatives! I constantly question why I chose this school during the winter. My room's overall cozy feel has been keeping my spirits up a bit better than in years past but when I step outside I'm still annoyed I'm in this climate. So I thought I'd get together some of my cold weather gear that's making this time a little less depressing.

So although these aren't in order of importance.... the most important cold weather purchase I own are my American Apparel Riding Pants. They honestly are the best pants I own. They're high waisted, which I think is super flattering on me and makes me look more hourglass than pear, super skinny and on top of that suck you in like crazy! I think they make me look skinnier than I am in the best way possible. They give curves where needed and detract where unwanted, they're basically the perfect pant and I have them in black and purple and know a few other girls that also have them in black and the dark green color. If every color looked good on me I would have them in every color, I'm actually considering a second pair of black, they're that good. Yes they are pretty expensive, I believe I got my black pair for full price (around $70) and I believe I got my purple pair discounted, but they're honestly worth the money, I've had them for at least 4 years and they still look and fit great and I wear them constantly.

Secondly, I've been obsessed with the fuzzy sweater trend. I love the 90s, no shame in my game. I was born in '92, love Kurt Cobain & Nirvana and just generally, and potentially unfortunately, really relate to 90s style. So I distinctly remember having a fuzzy short sleeved sweater in my childhood (as well as a long sleeved cropped top but lets not go there....) and the Forever 21 Fuzzy sweater I bought recently really brings me back (sniff sniff). I love this trend right now and am well aware I'm not the only one. I wanted this sweater purely for aesthetic reasons and was pleasantly surprised to discover how cozy it is. I wasn't able to find the exact sweater I have (mine has pockets on the front) but this is basically the same and oh so snuggly. I got mine 2 weeks ago and have (cough) worn mine almost every day since. It was about $30 and more than I wanted to spend on the sweater, but I think for the wear I've already gotten out of it I don't think I'll be regretting my purchase any time soon.

Last and FAR from least, My Dr Martens 1460s. So just over 4 years ago I received these boots as a christmas present. The year before I had gotten the 1914s in Cherry Red which, unfortunately, proved hard to wear. Not in terms of breaking them in, I've never had that difficult of a time breaking in my DMs, just in terms of styling. But when I received these bad boys I suddenly met a new BFF. Ever since they've been a mainstay in my wardrobe year round and have encouraged me to purchase two other (and counting!!) pairs of DMs. They honestly have evolved to sort of define my style and I truely feel like myself more when I'm in them than other pairs of shoes. Even the 1460s that aren't made in the UK can handle heavy wear, I'm moving into year 5 and hopefully counting with mine, and I would encourage anyone considering a pair to get them. They're really "in" now but they are a staple in my wardrobe and who knows you may just rediscover yourself.
